Miss D

This is the second time Devon has made an appearance on this blog, and will certainly not be the last. But this time, she brought company! I’ll be honest and admit I haven’t done much work with men as I would like but I really believe that her boyfriend added an unexpected element of softness and intimacy (impressive since he’s beefy military and all).

The photos, and a very important announcement after the jump!

I’d love to know what everyone thinks about the idea of couples’ intimates in the comments. Would you be interested in pulling your significant other for portraits in Blush style? Never ever want to see a duo on the blog again? I’m all ears.

FINALLY, in honor of the launch of the Blush blog overhaul, anyone who meets with me by May 31st and books their Blush Experience will receive 10% off! Fair warning – I can’t tell you (as in I have no idea) when the next discount will happen, but I can tell y’all, it won’t be for at least another 6 months, and certainly won’t last as long.

Devon

Devon is a super chill country girl, which influenced her look considerably for this session.

I absolutely adore the fact that each piece of Devon’s outfit can easily be found in some form at the local mall – cami, jean shorts, plaid shirt, cowgirl ankle-boots. Fairly straight forward. BUT – when Miss D pulls them together, POW! She could take over the world with all her adorable sweetness (with a bit of twang).

And if you want to meet me to talk about how you want your Blush Portraits done by Wednesday, May 9th, 2012, you’ll save 10% off your Session choice if you mention Devon’s blog post!

Rhuby Dooby

I am a firm believer in the necessity of bit of time set aside each week for ones own sanity. So much so, I’m devoting a post to the practice every week!

And this week’s easy to manage time-out can be found in a glass of Strawberry Rhubarb Wine from Santa Maria Winery & Vineyard.

It’s a sweet red, and so jammy that I wouldn’t be surprised if I had been pouring it out of a Smucker’s jar. Every sip is full of summertime without the sunburn and has certainly become one of my favorites. Rhuby Dooby is also an Iowa native, hailing from Carroll, y’know – if you’re into that sort of thing. And finally, there is the added bonus of a magic wand in every bottle.

Or maybe it’s their winery logo. But this is my blog, and I’m going with fairy wand because it makes me happy. For more information about this and their other wine varietals and where you can buy it, click here to visit their website! In the interest of full disclosure, this was not a sponsored post in any way, shape, or form. I thought the wine was tasty, a good way to relax, and worth recommending.

Janet

Please enjoy the premiere of the blog section for this website. I am so pleased that it is the darling, if ornery Ms. Janet starting things off with a bang, or possibly a bow-chicka-wow wow!

I loved her concept of being in little black dresses downtown but still feeling sexy, an unexpected, original place for intimate portraits or boudoir. It was a challenge though: Des Moines’ one-way streets are not generally a good way to keep calm, relaxed, and beautiful for Janet or myself, plus running into a disconcerting number of spiders just plain sucked. Ick.

That having been said, Janet is a natural in front of my camera, as I feel the pictures can attest to, and proving that having a great, sultry photo-shoot does not mean having to get naked (or even just in skivvies) or bordering on pornographic. It’s about what each person is comfortable with in that moment, and keeping the images personality-centric so there is a truth in everyone’s beauty.

I digress. Enough of that – onto the photos!

As an added point of interest, Janet has asked… or more specifically, insisted through threats involving sarcasm and minor inconveniences… that I show before and after comparisons of some images to prove to certain doubters and downers she’s encountered that say it’s all me and photoshop. It’s rude enough to say that I need computer software to compensate for any lack of skill in posing clients and using light to their advantage, but to even suggest she doesn’t look anywhere near the same? Nonsense. Piffle. Horsefeathers.

To back up my previous statements, I have included a couple of images straight from my camera and the final edited (or as insisted by others- “airbrushed”) images.
